This 12 ½ inch tall doll, circa the late 19th century, was manufactured in Germany by Simon & Halbig. The doll has a brown bisque socket head and brown ball jointed composition body. It appears that the head and body are both original to each other. The head has brown glass sleep eyes, an open mouth with upper teeth, and a black mohair wig. The wig is firmly glued to the head but, all that I can inspect, appears to be in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs to the bisque. The mohair wig is probably original to the doll and is quite firmly glued to the head. There is one very small white dot on the lower right cheek. The body is in excellent condition with the original brown paint and only the tip of the right thumb missing. The doll is incised, on the back of the head, “S & H//2/0.” There is other writing and most likely the mold number covered by the strongly glued down wig. I believe she is probably mold 1078 or 1079. The doll wears antique white cotton eyelet trimmed pantaloons and an antique cotton red and white striped dress with featherstitch adorned trim. She is quite attractive and the perfect cabinet size.
