These three dolls are printed on heavy card stock. One has “MCMXXXV(1935)//The Saalfield Pub. Co.” printed on the lower front base. They all three, one is 8 1/4 inches tall while the other two are 8 inches tall, appear to be from this period. Each doll has one iconic costume, printed on paper, that Shirley wore in her childhood films. The little actor was born in April, 1928, and appeared in her most famous films in 1934-1938. According to online source, “Wikipedia,” “Temple was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Kennedy Center Honors and a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. She is 18th on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest female American screen legends of classic Hollywood cinema.” As a small child, I loved paper dolls and cut them out until my fingers were numb. Since I started this addiction at the age of three, my mother tried to give me those ridiculous pink plastic safety scissors. They were useless and she finally gave up and handed me real people adult metal scissors. (If you are younger than 55, you will not remember the pink scissors so go ask your mother!) Being born in 1955, I was too young to own these paper dolls but do remember seeing Shirley’s movies on TV. The dolls and costumes are all in good condition with some very slight age discoloration. I believe these three would be great framed and hung as decoration in a doll collection room or displayed with the actual composition Shirley Temple dolls.
