This 13 ½ inch tall doll, circa the late 1800s, has a papier mache head, cloth body jointed at the shoulders and hips, and composition lower arms and legs. The doll has blue glass paperweight eyes and painted facial features including a closed mouth. She retains her original blonde mohair wig. The doll wears her original lace and ribbon trimmed white cotton underclothing that I do not believe has ever been removed. She also wears her original cotton print dress with ruffles of pink silk. Completing her outfit are pink satin shoes and white socks. The doll is in excellent condition with no repaint or repair. There is one small flake to the papier mache of the top inner corner of the right eye that may have occurred when the eye openings were originally cut during the doll's manufacture. These German creations are often called patent washable dolls and this is a particularly lovely example.
