This 19 inch tall doll, circa the late 1800s or early 1900s, was created by the German firm of F. S. Schilling. She has a papier mache shoulder head, lower arms, and legs. Her original body is cloth. The doll has blue sleep eyes with the original wax coating on the eyelids. She also has an open mouth with teeth and her original blonde mohair wig. The doll is unmarked. The head has no repaint or repair with some of the typical cracking of on these antique papier mache dolls. There is a rub on the tip of the nose. There are few fingers that have chips and are missing on the left hand. The body is quite clean and sturdy. The doll wears a wool knit bonnet and booties. She also wears a lovely antique white cotton christening gown. She also wears an antique cotton lace trimmed camisole that, I believe, is factory original accompanied by cotton pantaloons. I have always been attracted to these Schilling papier mache dolls with their happy dimpled smiles. They just make me happy to look at them.
