1858 Patent Label Greiner Papier Mache Doll
This 29 inch tall doll was created by Ludwig Greiner of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the mid 19th century. She has a papier mache shoulder head, sturdy cloth body, and leather arms with some old patching. I believe the doll is in all original condition. The period clothing including a two piece dress and layers of white cotton lace trimmed underclothing appear to have been made for her when she was first created. I did not attempt to remove all the clothing as it is sewn onto the doll and I did not want to disturb the originality. She also wears antique socks and leather button shoes. On the back of her shoulder head is the original Greiner label. For some strange reason, the label was put on the doll backwards but it is still legible. The original finish head is in good condition with no repaint, repair, or cracking. She does have overall age wear to the finish on her head and some scuffing on the tip of her nose. She is a nice large example of an early American made doll.
