This 13 ½ inch tall limited edition china girl comes with her own wooden base stand that increases her height to 14 ½ inches. The doll has a 4 inch tall china head with shoulder plate, lower bent arms, and lower legs ending in molded and painted one strap shoes. The torso is white cotton cloth. The doll is poised looking down at a doll that she has lovingly clasped to her breast. This unjointed doll with her doll is entitled, “Mary with Her Doll.” She is marked, on the lower back of her shoulder plate, “Mary//Doll of the Year//First Edition//1983.” There is also a circular stamp on the bottom heels of both feet with the official “Towers” insignia of the Bing & Grondahl porcelain factory of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is now a part of Royal Copenhagen Porcelain. According to B & G, this doll was modeled after a Madonna figurine created by them in the 19th century. The limited edition doll, produced solely in 1983, wears a white cotton dress silkscreened with pink rosebuds. The doll is created from cloth and wears a lace over blue fabric gown. The bonnet is securely attached to the molded and painted hair so I did not attempt to remove it. The dress has never been removed from the doll so I did not attempt to remove it either. The entire figurine is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. I can see “Mary and her Doll” displayed with many different types of dolls. She would be a complement to a grouping of character children or china dolls but also quite alluring alone as the “star of the show.”
