This 13 inch tall doll has a bisque socket solid dome head with a flat crown and stringing holes. This type doll is often identified as a Belton and was created by various German firms including Bahr & Proschild, Kestner, and Simon & Halbig during the last quarter of the 19th century. This little girl retains her original composition. Her antique human hair wig may also be original to her. The body has some typical wear to the paint layer on the wood surfaces of her limbs. She also is missing the tips of two of her fingers on her right hand. She has a closed mouth, pierced ears, and brown paperweight eyes. The head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. It is incised at the back of the neck with the number 5. These dolls usually are completely unmarked on have only a mold number. The wide eyed miss wears cream color cotton underclothing with lace trim. Her silk dress and bonnet with lace trim are quite flattering and appropriate but are contemporary editions. She also wears newer shoes and socks. Often these Belton type dolls were created in Germany for the French market. She is a sweet little German child in a great cabinet size edition.
