Simon & Halbig Bisque Swivel Neck and Shoulder Plate with Original Cloth Body

This 14 inch tall bisque head doll with a socket head and shoulder plate has the original cloth body jointed at the hips and knees. The lower arms are the original bisque. The bisque socket head and shoulder plate are in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The back of the head is incised, “S&H 1009//DEP” and retains the original cardboard pate and blond mohair wig in the original set with blonde mohair braids. The doll has blue glass eyes, molded pierced ears, and an open mouth with teeth. Her cloth body represents more of a young pubescent girl showing the beginning of puberty rather than a young child. She is definitely a young lady with a lady’s body rather than a child. The clothing appears to be original to Simon & Halbig and includes white cotton lace trimmed underclothing, ecru knit socks, black shoes, a black skirt with black velvet trim, white cotton sleeves with brown cotton print silk bodice, and a brown decorated velveteen collar. She also wears her original black cotton and red velvet bonnet. I believe the clothing is all original to the doll with age showing on the vest and skirt. Because of its originality, I would not try to remove it for further cleaning. To me, it is lovely just as it is. The head is great except for a tiny pin size flake on the base of the right eye. The body is sturdy and the clothes are clean with some typical wear to the silk of the vest and some silk age wear to the top of the red silk apron. None of these frailties affect me in the least as originality, to me, is so much more important than perfection when dealing with an antique doll.
