This 18 ½ inch tall brown/black cotton cloth doll, circa the late 19th or early 20th century, has a 33 ½ inch tall broom body consisting of the straw broom base and the wooden handle. The doll has a brown and black cotton upper torso, head, and arms. The lower body is created with the broom rushes. The head has embroidered facial features. She wears an antique black and red check dress and a white cotton apron. The doll also wears a white silk shawl. She is in good sturdy clean condition. The silk shawl shows significant melting due to age. It appears that this broom doll is all original and has not been “put together” at a later time. I love her face and the wonderful folk art appeal. What an interesting and unique addition this would be to a cloth doll or primitive folk art collection.
