This 19 inch tall doll, circa the 1920s, was manufactured in Paris by Edouard Raynal. She has a molded or pressed cloth felt head with a cloth body. The body is jointed at the neck, shoulders, and hips. She has beautifully painted facial features with side glancing eyes and a closed mouth. Her original mohair wig is styled into two braided pigtails. The costume, with a red felt skirt, white cotton lace trimmed blouse, black felt vest, and silk print apron and shawl, is original to the doll. The white cotton underclothing and socks also are original. The black felt shoes are older but later replacements. This doll is in good clean condition with some slight age discoloration to the body and clothing. She is quite artistically painted and well constructed. The Raynal French cloth dolls were made to compete with the Italian Lenci dolls of the same period.
