These two little dolls, circa the late 19th or early 20th century, have china shoulder heads and their original cloth bodies. They were most likely manufactured by Hertwig in Germany and have low brow black painted hairstyles. The larger 7 ¼ inch tall doll has an educational print cloth body with bisque lower arms and lower china feet with brown painted heeled shoes. The smaller 6 ½ inch tall doll has an ecru cotton cloth body with bisque lower are a legs ending in black painted heeled shoes. Both dolls are faintly impressed with the word “Germany” on the lower back of the shoulder plate. The heads are in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs except for some slight roughness around the lower edges of the shoulder plates. This probably occurred with the original firing of the dolls and is not due to later damage. The bodies are both sturdy and clean and are jointed at the shoulders and hips. These two would be fun to display as they are or could be dressed by the new owner and possibly displayed in a doll house.
