This 20 inch tall doll, circa 1878-1890, was manufactured in Paris, France, by Petit & Dumoutier. The doll has a pressed bisque head with a closed mouth and blue glass paperweight set eyes. Her original ball jointed composition body has metal hands. The head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. It is marked simply with the size number 3 but is undoubtedly a PD doll. The body is in good condition with original finish. There may be some repaint to part of the left metal hand as these are known for paint chipping. The doll retains her original cork pate with a slightly sparse mohair wig. She wears antique white cotton underclothing and a lovely an antique dress decorated with hand featherstitch embroidery. The shoes are antique while the beautiful bonnet is a newer creation made with antique ribbon. PD dolls are some of my very favorite French character dolls. Their quirky asymmetrical fat check face always makes with smile.
