This 10 ½ inch tall doll, circa the late 19th century, has a Belton flat top solid dome head and a composition and wood body. She was made in Germany but would have been intended to sell to the French. The early pale bisque head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. It is incised, “106//9” on the back of the head. The body is also in excellent condition with the original finish. The doll has an open/closed mouth, with the suggestion of teeth. and brown glass paperweight set eyes. She also has a blonde mohair wig. Miss Belton wears antique white cotton lace trimmed underclothing and a pink ruffled lace trimmed pink cotton batiste dress. She is a great example of the German’s ability to create dolls to rival those made in France.
