This 18 inch tall doll has a 4 ¾ inch tall rubber shoulder head and a cloth body jointed at the shoulders, hips, and knees. She has great individually stitched fingers also. I believe the body is probably the original one for this head. This particular head is an early example, circa the mid 19th century, with a deeply sloping shoulder plate and a hairstyle reminiscent of those found on the 1840s-50s German china head dolls. The doll is sturdy with the typical crazing to the rubber finish but no repaint or repair. The body is sturdy with some age discoloration. I love the red and white striped garters that are attached to her black socks. Those stockings certainly are not going to fall down. The doll also wears sewn on red leather shoes, white cotton antique underclothing, and a cotton blue and white striped dress decorated with lace trim. If you collect early dolls, primitive dolls, or unusual dolls, this one should not be missed. She really is an incredible example.
