This 6 inch tall bisque socket head, circa the late 19th or early 20th century, was manufactured in Germany by Armand Marseille. The head has brown glass sleep eyes and an open mouth with four upper teeth. The back of the head is incised, “30.//Germany//Queen Louise//9.” This head is in good condition but does have some repair and damage. At the socket opening, there is a piece that has been broken and glued back into place. It is at the very base of the neck socket so it will be hidden when the head is attached to a composition body. There is also a faint scratch in the bisque on the back of the head. This would be hidden by the wig and is not a crack but just a scratch in the top layer of the bisque. When the eyes are closed, one of the eyelids is askew. I believe all of these issues are visible in the photos and the head would still make a lovely doll and is offered at a price allowing for these issues.
