This 18 inch tall doll, circa the early 20th century, was manufactured in Germany by Kammer & Reinhardt while the head was produced by Simon & Halbig. This doll has a bisque socket head and a composition ball jointed body. The head has blue glass sleep eyes, an open mouth with upper teeth, and a mohair wig styled with two braids. The back of the head is incised, “K*R//Simon & Halbig//117n//Germany//43.” The doll was known as “My New Darling” as the open mouth version of the closed mouth Mein Liebling. The head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There are missing eyelashes on the right eyelid but this is not really apparent when the eyes are open. The body is in good condition with some wear to the paint. Someone, in the past, most likely the original little girl owner, painted the fingernails red. This nail polish could probably be removed but I left it as part of the doll’s past. Mein Neuer Liebling wears a great cotton print dress with matching panties and an antique cotton petticoat. She has a sweet character presence and I particularly love her braided pigtail wig.
