large 22 inch tall doll, circa the 1840s, was manufactured in Germany. She has a 5 ½ inch tall papier mache shoulder head with her original slim waist white leather body and lower arms and legs of wood. The legs end in flat bottom green painted shoes. The doll is in very good condition with no repaint or repair. She has molded and painted facial features including blue painted eyes and a fabulous hairstyle. The hairstyle has black painted curls down to the neckline with comb molding and painted brushstrokes on each side of her head. She also has molded and exposed ears as well as early molded breasts on the shoulderplate. There is the typical crazing to the surface of the papier mache as can be seen in the photos. The kid body is quite sturdy. The costuming is lovely but is most likely not original to the doll as it appears to be of a later vintage. She wears white cotton batiste underclothing and a gorgeous silk two piece dress with embroidered flower decoration. Her size, great condition, and detailed early hairstyle make this doll a must for any avid antique doll collector.
