This 23 inch tall china head doll, circa the 1840s, has a 5 ½ inch tall china head with a wonderful early hairstyle. It has fabulous brushstrokes around the forehead and a waterfall bun in the back. The antique cloth body, with some age discoloration, is in good condition with leather lower arms. The head is in good condition with an old faint hairline on the lower left back of the shoulder plate. It does not reach the neck and may have occurred when the doll head was originally manufactured. The head is certainly of German origin and I believe it was most likely made by the Kestner & Company Porcelain Factory. The doll wears antique white cotton underclothing, a fabulous red dress with black jet bead and velvet trim, and early leather shoes. She is a treasure with a regal presence!
