These 15 inch tall dolls, circa the late 18th century, have carved wood socket heads with dramatic painted facial features, striking blue glass eyes, and wonderful original set mohair wigs in elaborate period styles. The dolls have carved wooden torsos with iron pin jointing at the hips and knees, cloth upper arms and carved wooden hands. The fragile clothing, in Venetian court style, appears to be original. Each doll has attached stringing so that they could be used as marionettes. These are fabulous early dolls with such originality including painting, wigs, and clothing. If you like the rare and unusual, this pair must be added to your collection.
