This 12 inch tall doll, circa the 1840s, has a 3 inch tall china shoulder head. I am not certain of the German factory that made this early head with painted facial features and a rare hairstyle. The doll has an antique body of cloth with kid leather lower arms. The body is sturdy with some old patching at the waist but the leather arms do show wear. The head is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is some typical wear to the black hair paint. Most of the white spots in the hair are simply photo flash reflections and not wear to the paint. The elegant lady wears an old black two piece dress decorated with laced and jet beads. She also wears and an antique white cotton petticoat and pantaloons. Her hairstyle is fabulous.
