These artist dolls represent two famous historical figures, Queen Elizabeth and Sir Walter Raleigh. It is often speculated that Elizabeth was in love with Raleigh. At least, as dolls, they can be together. Raleigh is 16 inches tall and Elizabeth is 14 ½ inches tall. The heads are made of resin with painted facial features and swivel necks. The hands are also resin on both dolls. Raleigh has resin legs while Elizabeth has a rounded velveteen covered lower body. Both dolls are lavishly dressed and are in unplayed with excellent condition. I do not know the artist but the facial painting is quite artistic. Most likely the dolls were created in the 1990s. I can see these dolls being displayed in a Tudor vignette or accompanying antique French fashion dolls to a soirée. Wouldn’t they look great in a costume party setting?
