This 16 inch tall doll, circa the 1920s, is an early composition mama type doll made by the Averill Manufacturing Company. The company’s doll trademark name was Madame Hendren. This doll has a composition shoulder head with green tin sleep eyes, and an open mouth with two upper teeth and a separate tongue. She retains her original brunette mohair wig. She has composition lower arms and legs. The cloth body is jointed at the shoulders and hips and is stamped, “Genuine//Madame Hendren//Doll//C/16//Made in U.S.A.” There is some minor crazing to the composition, especially on the arms, but no repaint. The doll wears a cotton romper that may be original to the doll and a vintage hand sewn red dress with lace and embroidery trim.
