This 11 inch tall doll, circa the 1860s, has a 3 inch tall head manufactured by the German firm of Alt, Beck & Gottschalck. The doll has a bisque shoulder head with molded and painted facial features and a fancy hairstyle with a snood and a glazed hair decoration with a feather plume and a tassel. Empress Eugenie retains some parts of an early body including fabulous bisque arms with delicately modeled hands. Parts of the cloth body are replaced or recovered and the lower legs are most likely appropriate, but later, replacements. The doll arrives dressed in pantaloons and is ready to be costumed by her new owner. The head is in good condition except for a flaw on the nose. I do not know if this is a later chip or occurred when the doll was originally made. In any case, my photos show this defect and I have adjusted the price to reflect condition. I have always loved this elegant and regal doll mold.
