This 8 inch tall all bisque doll is jointed at the shoulders. She was manufactured in Germany in the late 19th or early 20th century. My understanding is that these dolls were made by Kestner but I cannot find any documentation at the moment to substantiate that. The impish little girl has side glancing painted eyes and an open/closed mouth with two upper teeth. She also wears molded and painted black shoes with blue socks. The back of the doll is incised, “The// Wide Awake//Doll//Registered//Germany/20.” Miss Wide Awake wears a darling pink cotton dress decorated with tucks, lace, and trims. The little child is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The modeling is particularly deep in this larger size child.
