This 9 inch tall doll was manufactured in Germany circa 1840s-1850s. The milliner’s model has a mache shoulder head with painted facial features and long curls. She has a white kid leather body with carved wooden lower arms and legs and retains the original blue paper bands at the elbows and knees. The legs end in painted orange flat bottom shoes. The cotton dotted Swiss and polished cotton original dress is decorated with lace and blue ribbon. They just don’t get anymore original than this! The clothes do show some age discoloration but I would never remove the clothing as the doll is in such original condition and I wouldn’t want to disturb this originality nor risk damaging the textiles. Please do not purchase this doll if you are going to feel the need to remove and clean the clothing. She needs to be preserved as she is. The doll comes in a vintage box where she has been stored many years. The top of the box has a message about the doll that has been handwritten by the great granddaughter of the original owner. The message says that “Great grandmother got it when she was 5 years old. She was born in 1847.” What a treasure!!
