This 20 inch tall doll, circa the 1860s, has a 5 inch tall china head created by the German firm of Conta & Boehme. She has a wonderful hairstyle with a molded braided coronet complemented by bows and buns in the back. The body is cloth with lower china arms and legs. The legs end in flat bottom black painted shoes. The cloth body is old but is most likely not as old as the doll. The china limbs are quite appropriate but are definitely of a later vintage. The elegant lady wears antique white cotton batiste underclothing decorated with tucks and lace. The two piece plaid dress has been created for this doll by a talented seamstress of the past. The head is in good condition with some typical wear to the black paint on the back of the head. There is a very old hairline crack on the right shoulder. It is quite stable and must have occurred many years ago or even with the original firing of the head. This is a beautiful doll that will be a lovely addition to any collection.
