This 18 inch tall doll, circa the 1850s-60s, was manufactured in Germany by the Simon & Halbig factory. The doll has a cup and saucer swivel neck with blue glass set eyes. She has blonde molded hair and full cheeks. She seems to be more of a young lady than a woman. The bisque head and shoulder plate are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. I believe the body and the clothing are original to this doll head. The body, in good sturdy condition, is cloth with white leather lower arms. The doll wears antique cotton underclothing and a dress that appears to be made of silk and linen. The dress retains the original lovely blue ribbon. Completing the costume is a pair of fabulous red leather boots with matching blue ribbon. I do not believe the shoes have ever been removed from the doll and I would not ever attempt to remove them as the perfect ribbon is delicate and could easily be damaged. I also chose not to remove the dress as the ribbon and fabric is so original and somewhat fragile. I have always loved this S&H mold particularly with the swivel neck an am drawn to dolls with such originality. What a rare beauty!
