This 9 ½ inch tall German doll, circa the mid 19th century, has been in my collection for several years and, before that time, was owned by a very esteemed East Coast collector. The doll has a papier mache shoulder head with molded and painted ethnic facial features and hair. She has a brown cotton cloth body jointed at the shoulders and hips with lower black painted wood arms and legs. There is some wear to the black paint finish on the head but the fabulous character features are still quite prominent. There is no repaint to the head or wood limbs. I do not know if the clothing is original but it has been on this doll for many years, is antique, and is quite appropriate.
