This 20 inch tall doll, circa the 1860s, has a china shoulder head that was manufactured by the German firm of Kister. The early pressed head is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a small firing line at the neck but this would have occurred in the initial firing of the doll head and is not damage. I have always loved this mold with her Mona Lisa type smile and modified flat to hairstyle. The doll has an antique cotton cloth body with china lower arms and legs. There is some old patching to the fabric of the body. The little arms and legs are small and out of proportion for the head that have certainly been with this doll for many years. The original owner obviously had these little limbs and decided to add them to the doll. I actually find this rather charming. If I were keeping her in my collection, I would give her an antique dress but leave the body as is. That is up to her new owner to decide.
