This 17 inch tall doll, circa the 1940s, was manufactured in New York City by Fleischaker & Baum. The doll is all composition and jointed at the neck, shoulder, and hips. She has sleep eyes, a closed mouth, and her original yarn hair. These dolls were manufactured yarn hair for only a short time during World War II due to material shortages. The doll has no repaint repair and only very minor composition crazing typical of dolls from this period. These type Effanbee dolls were marketed under the name Anne Shirley and also “Little Lady.” This doll is marked, in raised lettering, “Effanbee/U.S.A.” on her back and the back of her neck. She wears a period cotton print dress, a white cotton petticoat, and silky panties.
