This 5 ¼ inch tall doll, circa the early 20th century, is jointed at the shoulders and hips. She has molded and painted facial features, hair, shoes, and socks. The little girl has side glancing googly eyes and an open/closed smiling mouth with two tiny upper teeth. She is obviously of German origin and her beautiful bisque and delicate painting leads me to believe that she was probably manufactured by a firm such as J.D. Kestner. The doll is incised “146 12 ½” on her back. The plaid cotton dress, ecru apron, and lace trimmed underclothing is sewn onto the doll and appears to be original. I did not want to disturb this originality by removing this pristine little outfit that still sports the original crisp finish. I was able to move it around to check the condition of the bisque however. The googly is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. I just love the express on this plump little sweetheart!
