This 18 inch tall doll, circa the 1860s-70s, has a 4 ½ inch bisque shoulder head. The head was manufactured by the German firm of Alt, Beck & Gottschalck and is often called the Empress Eugenie mold. The cloth body, with leather lower arms and jointed at the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees, is antique and may be original to the doll. The head has molded and painted facial features, blond molded hair with a snood and feather plume decoration. The bisque shoulder head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The body is clean and sturdy with silk socks and red leather shoes. The doll wears antique white cotton underclothing and an antique blue silk dress. I love this particular mold as she is quite elegant and refined.
