This 24 inch tall doll, circa the 1850s, china head doll, was manufactured by the German firm of Kestner & Company. The china shoulder head is in good condition and measures 7 inches. The head has no chips, cracks, or repairs but does show some wear on the nose, above the left eyebrow and paint wear on the back of the black paint of the hair on the back of head. She has blue painted eyes and a covered wagon hairstyle. The old body is cloth with leather lower arms. The right hand is missing some fingers. The doll wears, what I believe to be, her original costume. I did not attempt to remove it as I didn’t want to risk damage to the doll or the clothing. The skirt shows show age deterioration to the trim. She does wear layer of wonderful early cotton underclothing. There is something about is doll that just “speaks” to me. She is so early and authentic.
