This 15 inch tall doll, circa the early 20 century was distributed by the German firm of Kammer & Reinhardt. The bisque head was manufactured by Simon & Halbig. This doll has a bisque socket head and an original finish composition ball jointed body. She has blue glass sleep eyes and light brown mohair wig styled into braided pigtails. The back of the head is incised, “K*R//114//39.” Gretchen wears a wonderful ethnic costume. She also wears antique white cotton underclothing that is probably original to the doll. The head does have two faint hairlines. One is located on the forehead and one is on the back of the head. These are hidden by the wig and barely visible to the naked eye. They are stable and have probably been there almost since the doll was made. They are so faint that I cannot capture them with my camera. There is one small check rub on the left cheek. This is an opportunity to purchase a rare character doll for a fraction of the cost of a perfect example. The doll has especially lovely modeling and color.
