This 27 inch tall doll, circa the 1860s, has a 6 ½ inch tall china head. The head was manufactured by the German firm of Alt, Beck & Gottschalck. The china head has molded and painted facial features. She has black molded hair in a modified flat top hairstyle. The antique cloth body, jointed at the shoulders, hips, and knees, has leather lower arms and is quite clean and sturdy. The doll wears the most wonderful antique cotton print dress with white cotton eyelet trimmed underclothing. She also wears antique stockings and shoes. I did not attempt to remove the dress as it has obviously been on the body for many years and I did not want to risk damage to such perfection. The dress has some age discoloration and a few small holes but it is just so lovely. The head has no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a mold imperfection on the forehead that most have occurred when the head was originally fired. This is one of the most enchanting china dolls that I have sold recently.
