This 23 inch tall doll, circa the third quarter of the 19th century, is created from cotton cloth and jointed at the shoulders, hips, and knees. She has an oil painted head and hands. The hair and facial features are hand painted. There may be some old repaint to the back of the head. I checked with a black light and believe the facial features and front of the head are in original condition with no repaint. The doll is in good sturdy clean condition with some age discoloration to the body. She wears an antique white cotton petticoat, a wonderful blue cotton dress that is probably original to her, and a pair of antique shoes. The dress does show some fading but is quite lovely. This doll has great primitive appeal and definitely a survivor.
