This 20 inch tall doll, circa the late 19th century, has a bisque socket head and a composition ball jointed toddler body. The doll has an open mouth with teeth, brown glass sleep eyes, and a blonde mohair wig with a replaced pate. The head is incised, "made in//K Germany 14//143." This is a lovely large example of the early Kestner character mold. The head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The original toddler body retains much of its original finish but the hands have been repainted and the thumb on the right hand replaced. There is definitely some chipping to the finish at the joints and on the feet of the doll. The inside socket of the left leg where it joins the torso also has some repair. The chubby little toddler is dressed in white cotton underclothing, white boots, and a darling antique peachy pink dress that perfectly suits the complexion of this sweet child.
