This 23 inch tall doll has a 6 inch tall wax shoulder head with a cloth body and leather lower arms. This doll has been in my private collection as she is quite unique. I believe she is from the third or fourth quarter of the 19th century. She has glass eyes and painted facial features with the most interesting hairstyle gathered in two buns in the back of the head and decorated with a coronet of flowers. I believe the head is poured wax. It is quite heavy and I do not see a papier mache base underneath. The body, jointed at the hips and knees, appears to be original to the doll. The costume is probably original also. The lady wears white cotton lace and eyelet underclothing with net stockings and black velveteen shoes. Her antique dress is heavy green cotton decorated with black lace and dark brown velvet. The cloth body is sturdy and the head appears to be in original condition with no repaint or repair. There are some typical age cracks that seem quite stable as the doll has not changed in the years that I have owned her. I do want this lady to go to someone who will appreciate her for her one of a kind beauty.
