Joan & Lynette Antique Dolls and Accessories
Lynette Gross or Joan Farrell, Carmel or Indianapolis, IN
This 9 ½ inch tall doll, circa the early 20th century, was manufactured in Germany by Hertel, Schwab & Company. She has a bisque socket head and a five piece composition baby body. The head has a watermelon shape open mouth with two upper teeth, round googly blue glass side glancing eyes, and her original mohair wig with a cardboard pate. The back of the head is incised, “165//2/0” and is known as the Jubilee Googly. The bisque head is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The body retains the original finish with a small chip at the back opening of the composition neck. The impish googly wears her original cotton unclothing and chemise with lace and ribbon trim. The costume is sewn onto the doll so I did not want to risk damage to the fabric by attempting to remove it. The baby’s happy wide eyed character expression just makes smile.
