This 13 inch tall Russian tea cozy doll, circa the early 20th century, is created from needle sculpted stockinette fabric. She is called "The Coquette" (Joan has her with the Cyrillic label) and was made in the Soviet tradition of poking fun at the aristocracy. A rare tea cozy seldom found. She has hand painted facial features and wears a wonderful old hat adorned with flowers. She is missing an overskirt to cover her cotton quilted skirt but this could be easily remedied by a new owner who could complete the poor old girl's costume. This great character lady has been in my collection for many years. I love her smile. She embodies the "Coquette" of Russian pre-revolutionary times.
