Early Cloth Topsy Turvy with Black and White Faces
Here is our first find from doll buying in London!! This 17 inch tall cloth doll, circa the mid 19th century, has one black cloth face and one white cloth face. Both doll heads have embroidered facial features. The black face has a black curly mohair wig. The white face has blonde curls. It appears that the black curls are original but the blond ones may have been replaced. The dolls wear their original cotton print dresses. The white doll has a dark blue dress while the black doll has a wonderful multicolor print. The print has been meticulously cut along the pattern to reveal spots of the blue cotton dress underneath. The doll is in good sturdy clean condition. The white face has one break in the fabric revealing the old cotton batting stuffing underneath. This is a great old topsy turvy with wonderful personality and great fabrics.
