This 22 inch tall doll has a papier mache composition head with a cloth body and leather lower arms. The head, manufactured by the German Schilling firm in the late 19th century, has blue glass set eyes, an open mouth with teeth, and a skin wig. The head is in excellent condition with no repaint and virtually no crazing or cracking to the composition finish. The green silk dress is sewn onto the doll so I was not able to completely visually examine the body but it appears to be quite sturdy. The doll wears a green plaid silk dress with lace trim, antique white cotton lace trimmed underclothing, and carries a fur muff. The front of the dress has significant melting to the silk but could probably be preserved with some careful reinforcement of the delicate fabric.
