Hand made brooches were all the rage for Victorians who had a bent for the artistic. Sometimes painted on metal, sometimes painted on porcelain these brooches gave cousins and siblings hours of enjoyment in the crafting. The depiction of a bridge and sunset is from a hand painted piece which has been glued on a metal backing resined over. There is a real warmth in the sunset. And clearly for a person to make this special of a pin, hand made frame on the metal for such a piece--it clearly had sentimental value.
