Vintage Street Scene Oil Paris on Canvas Board 1960's Signed Balin . This original oil which was purchased from an estate ,is framed by renowned framers Cavelli i Poli from Cremona, Italy during the 1960's. The frame is stamped Cavelli I Poli. This company usually frames for The Louvre, The White House and The National Gallery. It is thought to be an original "Balin". Balin oil paintings with this signature are often of Paris street scenes landscapes or clowns. I can tell you this is not a Marty Balin or Ina Balin. It has been confirmed as not an Ina Balin by her family. Some of these were bought in Europe at the start of the war.
Why a Parisian Street Scene? It is because of the style of the street and buildings coupled with the rain coming down. The Parisian's do not mind having rain in their paintings, but the Italian's do mind the rain so they do not have any in their paintings, or so I have been told by a local curator.
Paintings by the same artist were sold from the Robert Sills Gallery in N. Hollywood, CA in the late 60's early 70's. It is an impressionist oil on canvas board by a European artist. The date of the painting is unknown. Similar pieces were also purchased in Frankfurt Germany in the late 1960's. The painting is in excellent condition and is not a reproduction. There is no cracking ,crazing or wear to the paint nor to the finish. The frame has a little wear on the lower right hand side but it does nothing but add to the character of the piece. It also has a chip out of it on the upper left side of the frame on the gilt edge. The frame is actually a piece of art as the molding has a gilt golden edge, a gold inside piece with leaves imprinted on it in black, a flocked red velvety piece near the picture itself and an edge of gold near right next to the picture. The craftsmanship is impeccable.
And the piece, judging by the care and expense of the frame and condition, was highly valued and greatly loved.
This piece would be an excellent addition to any collection of mid century oil paintings or to a collection of street scenes. It is a piece filled with class and movement. Vibrancy of color and purpose of action. It catches the eye and is quite a conversation piece which adds to the dimension of any room in which it hangs.
