This is a fabulous, hand made cotton gauze chemise dress from the late teens to early 1920s, with lavish, luscious embroidery! It is perfect for an afternoon tea, or garden party. This "no waist" or "drop waist" style and kimono sleeves were popular in 1921, and as with this dress, simply slipped over the head without fasteners. The neckline is gently scooped and the sleeves are short kimono style sleeves. There are several barely perceptible stains on the dress, but one large darker stain which might come out with a gentle hand washing with woolite or Forever New. There are areas where the stitching between the gauze and lace trim should be reinforced. I've tried to show the one area near the hem where there is a small hole. With a small amount of TLC, this dress will be wearable, since the gauze is quite sturdy. There are no rips at the hemline; any areas on the photo where the hem looks damaged is due to the rippling effect from the lay of the fabric. Although it would be a shame to cut this item apart, the fabric could be used for making doll clothes.
The dress measures 16" across the shoulders, 41" around the chest, 38" around the hip, and 38" long measured from the shoulder.
