This dress is for a size 6 Bru Jne bebe with Chevrot body, and it dates from the mid 1880s. It was originally a vibrant salmon color (as shown by the underside, inner seams, and lining in the hat). The silk-satin has since faded to a delicate peach color, with more fading in front than in the back. The olive green silk velvet trim seems to have held its color, however. The dress gives the appearance of a two piece outfit, but it is actually one piece. There is some melting of the silk along the front hemline for approximately 2-1/2", there is some melting on the back of he jacket just to the center of each armscyes., and a minor area on the right elbow of the sleeve. The dress has an attached gauze petticoat. The dress is fully lined in cotton gauze. The skirt portion of the dress closes in back with a hand stitched buttonhole and mother of pearl button, and the jacket fastens in front with 5 brass hooks and 5 threadloop closures. There is lace trimming the sleeve cuffs, and a jaunty lace jabot trims the front of the jacket! The skirt is gathered in front and has 4 box pleats in back. The silk ribbon in back was added in the early 1960s. The hat is made from silk velvet in olive green to match the green trim on the dress. It is lined with silk satin. Velvet leaves, a peach silk ribbon, and a peach ostrich plum trims the hat. The silk ribbon trim on the hat was also added during the early 1960s.
The measurements are: 4-1/2" across the shoulders, skirt waist 8", jacket waist 9-1/8", chest 9-34", armscyes 4-1/2", sleeve cuffs 3-1/8", sleeve length 3-1/8" and length of dress is 11-1/2" at the center back. The hat perches atop the head.
