Perfect for a size 8 Bru Jne head in need of a shoulder plate, this is a size 8 Chevrot-era Bru Jne antique pressed bisque shoulder plate. Note the "keyhole" opening for the arms; this is found on the Chevrot body Bru Jne bebe, not the earlier bebes Bru. The shoulder plate is marked Bru Jne on the left side of the back shoulder plate, and No 8 on the right side of the back. The shoulder plate had a hairline which was professionally restored, as seen in the photo. The hairline was superficial, and does not go through to the inside. The repair is on the right back of the shoulder plate, and the hairline starts at the bottom and curves upward. The other darkened areas on the shoulder plate are due to the varied thickness of the bisque (especially around the neck opening), not due to repairs. There are a few very tiny flakes at the nail-holes, both front and back. If you need further photos, please let me know. There is also a tiny flake along the bottom rim of the front, and a tiny flake on the inside of front rim. As is typical of the bebes Bru, note the detailed breast sculpting, as well as the detailed sculpting in back at the shoulders. Truly amazing and a work of art!
Appropriate for the French bisque of 1883, this shoulder plate was hand pressed. Therefore you will see that the bisque is of uneven thickness. On the inside of the shoulder plate, the armhole cuts and the neck opening are rough, which would be typical, since these openings were cut out by hand. This was done in manufacturing, and is not damage.
The shoulder plate measures 5-1/2" wide, 3-3/8" front to back, and 2-3/4" high at the center back, 2-1/4" high at the center front. The neck opening is 1-15/16" wide by 1-13/16". The opening is a slight ovoid shape.
