Beautifully made of Pure Coin silver as marked, these spoons were not made by N. Matson as he was not a silversmith but a businessman. He hired silversmiths to make coin silver spoons and put his name on them for his store bearing his name. From what I can gather, spoons were marked with his name beginning in 1845. So this pair of spoons is quite old. They are monogrammed with the name E. Barton in beautiful fancy Olde English script.
They are each 6" long and together weigh 1.2 ounces on my postal scale. The backs are signed N. Matson for Newell Matson and also PURE COIN for coin silver which is 900/1000 parts of silver vs. sterling which is 925/1000. They are in excellent condition with no wear to the edges and no dimples in the bowls. Very, very nice spoons. Nice price too.
