This is adorable on and fits so nicely. It just hugs your head! This creation appears to be hand stitched with the exception of the center seam down the center which was machine made. The pleating of the felt and hand stitching can be seen from the inside. It is beautifully formed and fits so well.
It has a woven label on the inside that says: Ida May HATS and GOWNS WILSHIRE BLVD. LOS ANGELES
There is also a stamped label on the felt that says FUR FELT BODY BY MALLORY CRAVENETTE.
It seems that Mallory treated their felt so that it would not retain water, hence, the Cravenette label. They made gorgeous hats and competed with Stetson until Stetson bought them in the 1940s.
The circumference measures approximately 22 1/8" around the grosgrain on the inside. The tie at the front is a bit lighter in color. The hat is so soft to the touch. It is in great shape with a small area with three spots, two are tiny, almost on the edge towards the back, where a moth may have gotten to the felt so it it priced lower than market. I could not photograph it and it is not noticeable unless you are carefully inspecting the hat. I just want to make sure I cover everything in the description. If I can provide any other information, please ask. Thanks for stopping by!
