This is a gorgeous example of the work of Lillian Pines. Her work is highly sought after and has increased in value. Lillian Pines was a contemporary and a good friend of Mary Gage who also worked in sterling silver. It is evident by looking at their work, that they influenced each other.
The detail of this demi parure is amazing. The center, very shiny heart is surrounded by the most detailed sterling bead work as well as sterling wire frames intertwined to make these fabulous pieces. The earrings are a smaller version of the brooch.
Lillian H. Rosenblum Pines was born in New Hampshire in 1894. She had a shop at the Westbury Hotel on the east side of Manhattan which was later home to all the top luxury retailers, Cartier, Chloe and Gucci, etc., so she picked the right spot!
The brooch measures 2" high and a bit over 2" wide. The earrings are a bit shy of 1" wide and 1 1/8" high. The brooch is signed LILLIAN PINES STERLING ES and the earrings are marked STERLING on the screw backs. I have not seen a pair of earrings that she signed so it's great to have the matching brooch with the signature. They are in excellent condition. I know that this set will polish up brightly but I will leave that to the new owner who might like the patina as is.
